Ah, Spring by Karen-Maeby McCormick

Ah, spring. Bring on your blooms.
We’ve been waiting for you and your warm weather all afternoon.
Wrapped up in blankets, stuck inside all winter long,
we’re ready to write and sing a spring song.
Winter’s snow covered up the old
and as it melted, became warm, and you spring -
showed your face,
it’s a brand new beginning once again.
Every year, I find myself waiting
waiting to start all over when you bloom, dear spring.
It means something for a new beginning…
and I just can’t wait to see what this change will bring.
I embrace the ground that I walk on,
I cherish the air I feel
and baby when it’s warm outside,
I know that the world is well awake and real.

I haven’t written a poem in over a year or so. I think it’s possible I could be getting my groove back. Maybe. In order to test that creativity to see if I still had it in me, I took one of the pictures I took the other day and tried to come up with something appropriate for it. i did. With me being a “2000s” poet, I try not to make my stuff rhyme so sing-songy but… with this being the first in a long time, I feel that it’s quite okay to have it turn out that way. And usually, it’s more deep than just the skin scraped surface.
Ah spring. What ‘ah will be done’ in spring.
