Misplaced – Poem
September 13th, 2011It’s that time for dVersepoets.com entry!!! Even though I’m a weebit late… Have been thinking about writing something like this all day. It’s going to be something you’ll see in my second or third book. This poem just summarizes it.
Misplaced

driving fast
windows open, hair blowing in the wind
stopping for a red light
a familiar smell of gas from an older car
hello, you’re such a reminder of the past
daydreaming, thinking, reminiscing
about my younger days spent in marshall, illinois
reminds me so much of my days
spent here in florida
so many similarities
the smell of walking inside a certain thrift store
brings me back to the days of going to the library
with my grandma applegate
passing those familiar concrete houses in florida
reminds me of her place
passing by old cars on the highway
i have to smile,
i remember the old cars that used to be
in the same neighborhood as my grandma
that old familiarity, vintage
something draws me to the colors
of fifty plus years ago,
even though i’m only twenty five
i’m definitely an old soul
living in this 21st century world
it’s fun coming across notes randomly
placed inside books, as a bookmark,
at the thrift store
handwritten, paper that tears when you fold it
and that smell - reminders
locally owned shops,
locally owned food and retail
people so laid back
family owned businesses
it’s definitely where it’s at
i love this place so much
and i wish i could tell my grandma
how much i like it because
it’s exactly like how i grew up
i think she’d smile – if only i could tell her
but i think she already knows,
i think she’s the one that sent this to [us] -
looking over us,
we’re going to have so much fun here
when things get back to normal, when things become right again.
