The Pirate Girl With a Nautical Heart
October 18th, 2011I’ve been so busy that I haven’t done dversepoets.com prompt in quite some time… Today I remembered it’s free write, so since I haven’t participated I really wanted to make it this time. Read to the bottom if you want to know what’s going on with me…

The Pirate Girl With a Nautical Heart
by Karen Maeby Bates – written 10/18/11
ocean waves
boats, sailing ships
the sun beaming down on her soft skin
smiling, she looks up
the ship waves at her
and her heart wants to go along
finds sailor’s rope -
ties around her wrist and
never takes it off
one day, she’ll be a sailing pirate
one day, she’ll be on a boat again
married, twice – to the same king -
queen she is, and love, they do have
married by the ocean…
they’re closer to what makes her alive
ocean-blue eyes, she’s lucky to see every day
out with the new, in with the old -
she cleans out her closet of anything new
in order to own all kinds of vintage items
she plans on surrounding her life full of
beach – pirate materials
she’s finding herself, finally finding herself
and it’s here… she’s here…
her heart is full near the ocean
give her fish and shrimp with
an evening sunset and jimmy buffett’s music accompanying
her king and queen-like self
and, she is happy.

This is us on 10/1/11 – celebrating our 1 year anniversary 9 days early (actual 1 year from 10/10/10). We had a small get together with family and friends on that Saturday. This is the first time we had professional photos taken together, as well. (The photo shown is not a pro picture.) Our Florida family finally met our real families and it was amazing having everyone in one house together. I know I haven’t written about this (and I should) but I haven’t had a chance to… And, above all, the weather was gorgeous – with a hint of October – just the way everyone liked it.

This is the beautiful little (big on the inside) cottage that we celebrated in. I love this place, it makes me want to work towards getting some kind of beach property that way… I could wake up to the sun rising over the beach every day. It was beautiful and very, very beach-like inside.

My parents and I took a visit to Clearwater together – one of the days that they were here – and I finally got a picture of the beautiful pirate ship that’s there. I love this sucker… so much! Can’t wait to ride on it one day.

I love this picture because of the rope and anchor… there’s so much awesome in this pirate cruise photo!
My mom and I went back so I could look in the surf shops and nautical / beach shops on Clearwater. I found the “Love Pirate” necklace in a surf shop, as well as finding SEVERAL beach-y necklaces and bracelets in random gift shops around. The picture of the rope – I found a white “sailor’s knot” bracelet in the airport while waiting for family to fly in. I love it. Haven’t taken it off since (other than to shower). The picture of the boat is from Clearwater, too. The full picture shows something like a suitcase (red thing) in front of it. It makes me sing ‘I’m leaving… on a jet plane’ – except for the fact that it’s a boat!
The above is also another photo from Clearwater. I *love* the picture in the upper right corner. We were walking the dock and I saw art in all of those fish lying there. Weird, I know. But I love the whole scene.
Overall, it was such a fun time. Dan and I were pretty darn happy about the way it all fell into place and we had an aaammmmmaaazzzing time at our celebration! The weather was perfect, cake was DELICIOUS (strawberry & chocolate chip), food was yummmy (Qdoba), family & friends meeting for the first time = awesome! And, so on… It was just good. I also fell harder in like with the ocean, too. Now I want to live closer to it and sail the ocean with my husband. Maybe we can become beach hobos together! Ha. Just kidding.
Anyway, where the hell have I been?
I’ve been working for this awesome guy that lives soooooooo close to that cottage on Indian Rocks Beach! He deals with all watercraft and watercraft parts. I go over there to his place and take photos of several items to place on eBay. I’ve been doing this for a little over (maybe?) a month now. It’s going okay… still the beginning of it, which means, not having a zillion products going out each week. Still testing the waters, still trying to figure out what people want or how to advertise or something of that nature.
In the last few days, I’ve had a tiny bit of free time (but not really, because I’m still busy as hell), so I’ve been emptying my closets out of things I don’t want and placing them on eBay. I have a lot more to go. This is also because if we have to move again, at least there will be less things to move. I hope. We hope.
In the last few weeks… I’ve also discovered West Marine this boat shop place. Wicked expensive, but damn good quality of stuff. I also found out that there’s nothing in the world I want more than materials with relation to the beach or ocean or sea animals, or. Which means, from here on out, I’m going to try to shop at only (FL gift shops) or stores that have stuff like that.
Also, I want a fish backpack. NOT a fish carrying a backpack but… a human backpack with a giant fish on it. Like the cute one I found at West Marine. Ha.
I haven’t been around on any social sites because I’ve got a long list of duties for work and for personal eBay (like, trying to make it and trying to make money) and so on. Mostly that, but also other personal projects.
Not to mention – guess what starts soon? November 1st through November 30th? NaNoWriMo. I have book two of three that I have to write. So now I am prepping myself with notes and outlines of book two… especially since my work isn’t in a set time right now. I was re-reading some of the first book I wrote last year… I have noooooooo idea what I was thinking back then. Damn, I was complicated. I mean, I still am, but I really hope that I can get back into the natural groove of what I had going on in that book because, if I don’t, it’s going to be really, really difficult… it’s all about the psychological nature and it’s very important that I get back into that thinking. I’m not quite sure how to throw myself in that feeling again.
October – my most favorite month – and it’s almost over. (WHERE DID THE TIME GO?) Usually, we’re seeing the leaves change colors and that was my favorite part of autumn/fall. Now… since we live in Florida, I still love October and it’s still pretty and I still laugh at everyone else who has temperatures below 80. I think I’d choose the beach and sun over happy changing leaves any day. Here makes me feel more alive.
So, one more thing… I’m missing Elaine Hunt this week, as it’s been a another year added on since she’s passed… Push Pin Memories & Philly forever.
That’s all for now. I just got an email from work – therefore meaning, going back under for a while again. Have loads of creative work to do as well as auctions and auction corrections.
Leave me notes! Say hi! Something. Peace for now until… I don’t know when.
